State Rep. Mike Karickhoff (R-Kokomo) was recently named the 2017 Indiana Association of Rehabilitation Facilities Legislator of the Year for his dedication to Hoosiers with disabilities.

The honor was presented during the organization’s legislative day and annual legislative luncheon in Westfield on Friday, Oct. 27.

“This organization is dedicated to those with disabilities, so it is such an honor to be recognized for advocating for such a worthy cause,” Karickhoff said. “Those with disabilities face many obstacles, and with Indiana’s new comprehensive policy, more Hoosiers with disabilities will join the workforce and find meaningful employment.”

Karickhoff sponsored a new law setting goals for increasing employment opportunities for those with disabilities in Indiana, as well as identifying and resolving barriers to employment.

The Indiana Association of Rehabilitation Facilities is the principal membership organization in Indiana representing providers of services for people with disabilities. Its members serve over 50,000 Indiana citizens annually and employ nearly 15,000 workers, according to Steve Cook, president/CEO of INARF.

“INARF is pleased to honor Mike Karickhoff with the 2017 legislator of the year award for his many years of dedication to Hoosiers with intellectual and developmental disabilities,” Cook said. “Rep. Karickhoff was a vocal advocate for the direct support professional wage increase in 2017, worked tirelessly on restoration of rates to the disability industry in the 2015 state budget, and has a long-standing relationship with INARF member organization Bona Vista Programs, Inc. We are proud to call him a champion for Hoosiers with disabilities.”

Rep. Mike Karickhoff (R-Kokomo) represents House District 30,which includes portions of Grant and Howard counties.
