After nearly five years in development, the radiography program of the St.Vincent College of Health Professions (SVCHP) has been certified by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), a private, non-profit, independent accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education. As a result, St.Vincent is the only hospital-sponsored program in Indiana to award Associate of Applied Science academic degrees.

"Modern healthcare is a team effort and having quick access to reliable images is imperative for patient care today," said Dr. Jeffrey Rothenberg, Executive Director, Medical Education and President, St.Vincent College of Health Professions. "Achieving the highest level of accreditation through by ABHES is a significant accomplishment and central to the vision of the college."

“The St.Vincent Radiography program has been the most rewarding experience I have ever had.  The program itself is a well-organized, challenging program that requires 100 percent of its students’ capabilities,” stated Abby Harness, AAS, RT(R), 2015-2017 program participant. “The opportunity for it to become its own college provides the radiography community with future techs who come with degrees and will now have the ability to be considered a more attractive program because of it. This will also provide the opportunity of great growth for a program that is very dear to my heart.”

The SVCHP Radiography Program is a full-time, two-year, on-site program that has a presence in 10 St.Vincent Health ministries throughout the state with Kokomo serving as a clinical program location along with Indianapolis and Anderson. Students in the program learn medical imaging and how the clinical practice links to the spirit-centered culture, integrated mission and core values of the ministry.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics, the demand for radiographers is expected to grow close to 10 percent in the next seven years.

"This degree offers a great opportunity for local students to apply their college credits toward an Associate’s degree, directly through the St.Vincent College of Health Professions,” stated Kevin Godshall, BS, RT(R), St.Vincent Kokomo Program Clinical Coordinator. “We now can accept prerequisite credits from any accredited US college that fit our list of required courses; saving future students time and money by not retaking classes. Beginning November 1, 2017, completed applications may be submitted.”
