The IHSAA announced the pairings for the 2017 Football State Tournament over the weekend. It will officially begin Oct. 20 with Classes 5A and 6A beginning mostly Oct. 27 (a handful of Sectional competitions will begin Oct. 20, but no local team will be affected by that change). The State Champions will be crowned in Indianapolis on Nov. 24 and 25.

In Sectional 11, Kokomo will host Harrison on Oct. 27. In Sectional 21, Western travels to Yorktown on Oct. 20. Also on Oct. 20, at Sectional 26 Northwestern will host Blackford. At Sectional 35 on Oct. 20, Eastern will host Eastbrook and Taylor will host Rensselaer Central.

IU Kokomo’s Taryn Thor picks up conference nods again this week after her third place finish in Louisville. The junior from Kokomo bested 301 other runners in the 5K with a time of 18:40. The Cougars run next at the Jenna Strong Classic Oct. 13.

Registration for Carver Center Fall and Winter Basketball League Starting Sept. 29. Grades K-12. Season starts Dec. 5 through Feb. 24 with an end of season tournament. Fees are individual $75 and team $400.
