The Western Lady Panther golf team earned top honors at the 2017 IHSAA Golf Sectional at Chippendale Golf Course shooting a 339 on the day. This is the fourth consecutive sectional championship for the varsity squad. Kokomo’s team finished second with a 358 and Northwestern placed third overall with a 375. The Lady Kats Kiah Parrott was the medalist on the day and set a school sectional record by shooting a 70.

IU Kokomo’s Macee Rudy (Middletown, Ind.) was name Volleyball Defender of the Week for the River States Conference after leading the Cougars’ back row to a set of conference wins. She made 19 digs as libero in the match over Carlow and picked up 16 more in the win over Point Park. Her serve percentage was 1.000 and reception percentage was .914 over the two matches.

IU Kokomo harrier Tarn Thor (Kokomo, Ind.) placed 10th out of 11 in the Indiana Intercollegiates to be named River States Conference Runner of the Week. She finished the 6K run in 23:26.

Kokomo Parks & Recreation Department is accepting team registrations for the Men’s and Women’s Winter Basketball Leagues. Registration is due Oct. 20 for the Men’s five-on-five and Women’s three-on-three league. The league is for adults 18 and over. The cost of the Men’s division is $508 per team and includes a ten game schedule followed by a single elimination tournament. Roster must have a minimum of eight players and a maximum of 15 players. The Women’s League plays half court with a one man referee system. The fee for the Women’s Winter Basketball League is $250.00 per team for a ten game schedule. Rosters must have a minimum of three players and a maximum of five players. Completed KPRD roster forms must be submitted with the entry fee to register a team for either league.  Both leagues are schedule to begin on Nov. 5. The IHSAA will begin streaming tournament pairings show for nine sports exclusively online at Softball, baseball, boys and girls soccer, boys tennis, volleyball, football, girls basketball, boys basketball and girls tennis will be announced on the website. The organization will no longer air the girls and boys basketball pairings show on Fox Sports Indiana but will provide tournament previews instead.
