While temperatures this week have been above normal, a big pattern change will bring much colder air to Indiana by this weekend and next week. A weather system will bring windy conditions along with periods of showers to the area on Friday. But a strong arctic cold front will move through the Ohio Valley on Saturday with rapidly falling temperatures and rain changing to snow.

We are closely watching a secondary system that *could* bring a chance for snow on Christmas Eve Night and Christmas Day. In addition bitterly cold air will pour into the Midwest and Ohio Valley by Christmas Day and for much of next week with the coldest air of the season. High temperatures will only reach the teens on Tuesday and Wednesday with low temperatures likely falling below zero. Wind chill values by the middle of next week could drop to as low as -20.

A winter like pattern will continue over the next 1-2 weeks. It will be mostly cloudy on Friday with a chance of scattered snow showers. While we will be in between weather systems on Saturday, another chance of rain and snow showers is in the forecast on Sunday. By the middle of next week we are expecting a return to unsettled weather with several weather systems bringing chances of snow back to the area.

Overall temperatures through the end of December will remain at or below normal with above normal chances of snowfall. The weather pattern continues to look favorable for several chances of snow leading up to Christmas.

After above normal temperatures the past several weeks, major changes are in store for the rest of December. Arctic air is already moving into the Ohio Valley and chilly temperatures with chances of snow showers will remain in the forecast through next week.

The first clipper system could bring a round of light to moderate snow to Northern and Central Indiana on Saturday. There could be enough snow with the system to accumulate on grassy surfaces and make roads a bit slick. High temperatures on Saturday will only reach the upper 20's.

Snow showers and flurries will remain possible on Sunday and Monday. Another weather system will move into the area Monday Night and Tuesday with another chance of snow showers and flurries. Even colder temperatures will arrive by the middle of next week with high temperatures in the middle 20's.

We will continue to see nice weather going through the end of the workweek and into the weekend. It will be sunny to mostly sunny through the weekend with high temperatures remaining in the upper 40’s.

Clouds will increase across the area on Monday ahead of an approaching weather system. That system could bring a chance of showers on Tuesday. Temperatures on Monday and Tuesday will reach the lower 50’s.

A cold front will pass by Tuesday Night and that means we will see cooler temperatures move into the Ohio Valley by next Wednesday.

Despite the fact that we are seeing above normal temperatures this week, it does appear a significant pattern change will bring much cooler air along with stormier conditions to the Ohio Valley by the first part of December.

  • 11/16/2017

A strong weather system will bring showers and thunderstorms to the area on Friday. It will be windy on Friday with winds gusting up to 40 mph. Temperatures will also be warmer with high temperatures reaching the middle to upper 50s. Showers and thunderstorms will sweep through the area Friday Afternoon, Friday Evening and Friday Night. Some of those showers and thunderstorms could produce strong winds.

Much cooler temperatures will move into the area for the weekend with a few lingering showers on Saturday. It will be dry and chilly on Sunday and Monday.

Another weather system will move into the Ohio Valley by next Wednesday with another chance of increased cloud cover and showers.
