Six new members have been added to the Howard County Hall of Legends. Six accomplished candidates who bring the total to 49, further proof that our county continues to nurture a wide variety of outstanding talents. You can learn more about Circus John Byers, Alicia Berneche, Virgil Hunt, Sam Rhine, Marilyn Skinner, and We Care at howardcountymuseum.org.

On behalf of the Howard County Historical Society, I want to thank the nominees for representing our community so well around the country and the world. Thank you also to chairperson Susan Sciame-Giesecke and the members of the selection committee, who plowed through dozens of nominations and spent hours considering and discussing the merits of each. We owe a great deal to the businesses who supported the induction banquet at Bel Air Events and made it possible for us to celebrate the lives of the new Legends: Platinum level sponsors Haynes International and Mid-America Beverage, Silver sponsors Indiana University Kokomo, St. Vincent Kokomo and the Kokomo Tribune, and Bronze sponsors Coca Cola of Kokomo, Ivy Tech, Kokomo Opalescent Glass, Salin Bank, and Shearer Printing. NIPSCO generously bore the cost of tickets for the students of the K.H.S. CEO program. The newspapers and radio stations helped us spread the word about the new Legends and the banquet, and we’re grateful for the help of the Kokomo Herald, Kokomo Tribune, Kokomo Perspective, WWKI, WIOU, and Z925. To the donors who gave to the silent auction and the buyers who bought – thank you. And to the many who came to the banquet: your support for the Legends and the historical society is the basis of all we do.

Thank you,
Dave Broman
