If you’re a Millennial, a person in the age range of eighteen to thirty two, you may agree that the one thing we all relate to is that we are all trying to #adult. If you are unfamiliar with this term, it is the act of constantly checking the hashtag on Twitter seeking the validation that you are in fact function correctly as an adult. If you are paying bills, you are #Adulting. Cooking an actual meal instead of ordering pizza again? #Adulting. While we may use this term in a humorous and ironic sense, it is comforting to see that we are not alone in feeling lost in our journey to become the ultimate adult.

If you are reading this, and you to take a little comfort in your own #Adulting skills, here are just some scenarios that you may relate to if you are #Adulting. You know you are #Adulting when:

You buy a gym membership, and actually use it for more than just the trial period. It takes serious determination to make those Zumba classes every Tuesday.

When your friends ask you to go out to dinner, but you turn them down saying, “I have food at home.” You may think you sound just like your mother, but you are saving yourself money that you can use for bills later. That’s #AdultGoals. Better yet, host a dinner party at your apartment for your friends and save them some money, too. You could work on those cooking skills!

Speaking of cooking, you know you’re #Adulting when you cook your own dinner instead of ordering pizza or microwaving food again. When you use an oven and cooking oil for the first time you feel so accomplished!

Every time you go to do something mundane like picking up mail or going to the grocery store. #Adulting.

Landing your first “grown up” job. Even if it is on campus or at McDonalds. You’re still making real money!\

Keeping up with current events. There’s something about having lively and intelligent debates about the current news that makes you feel so grown up.

Going to Target and walking out with exactly what you went in to get. Just kidding, that’s impossible.

For Millennials, this hashtag is not only comedic and ironic, it’s #relatable. If you have the Twitter account and the time, look up #Adulting. I’m sure it will bring you a few good laughs and, most important, comfort. Don’t worry if you don’t really know what you’re doing in your #Adult life, the secret is, none of us do.
