Beautiful weather, mild temperatures and a great crowd of enthusiastic walkers made the 16th Annual Walk A Mile in My Shoes event a wonderful place to be on Saturday February 11. We are so thankful for our community’s continued support for this event. It is a huge blessing to the women and children served by the Kokomo Rescue Mission’s Open Arms shelter. We are so grateful for the walkers, corporate and individual sponsors who raised $128,659.85! On behalf of the women and children who are served by the ministry of Open Arms, Thank You!!
More than 600 walkers from 79 teams, made the one-mile journey to help them experience firsthand the difficulties of life on the streets. Many of the walkers participated in the simulation experience at Open Arms. Each of the four simulations allowed participants the opportunity to experience the life of a woman or child who has come to Open Arms. Visit the Kokomo Rescue Mission facebook page for photos from this year’s walk.

Open Arms continues to help women and children who are experiencing challenges in their lives. The Kokomo Rescue Mission and Open Arms shelters are often full during the winter AND throughout the year. This event provides 60% of the Open Arms budget! A donation of $44.31 provides one night stay for a woman or a woman with children. This amount includes everything from the bed and meals to case management and education classes. We are so thankful for continued support for this ministry of the Mission.
