The Indiana University Kokomo student-athletes had a record-breaking semester academically. The Cougars set new records for highest department grade point average and most students on the Dean’s List in a semester. The Cougars had 30 students on the Dean’s List, which is 46 percent of the IU Kokomo athletes. The student-athletes surpassed their previous record breaking semester GPA by 0.15 points for a 3.33 department GPA.
The highest team GPA for the Spring was women’s cross country with a 3.57, followed by volleyball and women’s golf with 3.49 and 3.48 team GPAs respectively. Every team improved their overall GPA from the fall semester. The men’s golf team improved the most from the previous semester with a team GPA jump of 0.54 points. Overall, every team earned above a 3.13 this semester.
Director of Athletics Greg Cooper was proud of the academic performance of the Cougars during the spring semester.
“The success of our student athletes in the classroom is one of our top priorities, and the results of this semester demonstrate it clearly,” he said. “Our student athletes contribute so much to this university, and their academic success is one measure that proves their commitment to IU Kokomo.
Success in the classroom has become a priority for the Cougar athletic department, and Cooper was thrilled that the student-athletes continue to improve.
“For the fourth semester in a row, they have improved in the classroom and set the bar dramatically higher than ever before,” said Cooper. “I am so grateful for the work ethic of our student athletes and coaches.”
