CONVERSE, Ind. – For the fourth consecutive year, the Oak Hill Golden Eagles captured its own IHSAA wrestling sectional, but this title did not come as easy as past years as the Golden Eagles clipped runners-up Western 231-226.5. Eastern wrestled well and took home third place with 212 points. The top four finishers in each weight class advance to the IHSAA Peru Regional on Feb. 4.

“DaShaun Barbary lost a heartbreaker of a match in the finals,” said Kokomo head coach Ryan Wells. “He was up the entire match when his opponent scored a two-point reversal with just seconds left of the clock. He will still move on to the regional and get another crack at becoming champion this week.”

Tigers are the Peru Sectional 

PERU, Ind. – The Peru Bengal Tigers won the IHSAA Peru Wrestling Sectional for a fifth consecutive year with 268.5 points, easily outdistancing itself from second-place Maconaquah (182) and third-place Manchester (181.5). Northwestern was fifth (122). 

Max Clark (220-pounds) repeated as a sectional champion for Northwestern. 

Other Tigers to advance to the Peru Regional were Tanner Pipenger (second at 126), Mason Coen (fourth at 132), Evan Cardwell (third at 170), Patrick Harris (third at 195) and Colten Pipenger (third at 285). 

“Pretty good day for us as we finished fifth as a team, qualifying six wrestlers for next week’s (Peru Regional), said Northwestern head coach Steve Swinson. “We were hoping for one or two more guys to advance but we are really happy with the total improvement our whole team has made this season.”
