Taylor High School is hosting the Harlem Wizards on Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. At 7 p.m. the Wizards will take on the teachers in a basketball game for charity. Proceeds will benefit the PTO. Tickets start at $8 for general admission. VIP tickets are available as well. Tickets are on sale at harlemwizards.com and will be on sale at Taylor Schools.

Cougar Prospect Camp to be held Oct. 29 at Kokomo Municipal Stadium. Cost varies for position players, pitchers, and two-way players. Camp includes learning about recruiting with Coach Matt Howard, infield and outfield evaluations, hitting and pitching lecture, defensive instruction, and proper recovery tips. Kokomo Boys Cross Country qualified two individuals the New Prairie Semi-State. Julian Wallace finished 136th with a time of 18:02 and Corey Dea ended his season with a time of 18:37, good for 156th. Western’s Tyler Lechner finished 113th with a time of 17:41.

For Girls Cross Country, Western’s girls team finished 20th overall. Olivia Lushin crossed the finish line with a time of 21:33, good for 93rd. Northwestern’s Lauren Longshore finished her race in 20:13 for 64th place. 

In football, Western squeezed by Yorktown 35-34 to advance to the second round of the IHSAA Sectional. The Panthers will play Pendleton Heights Friday at home. Northwestern fell to Blackford 27-28, Eastern lost to Eastbrook and Taylor ended their season to Rensselaer Central. Kokomo begins their quest for their third consecutive Sectional Championship on Friday when they play conference rival Harrison at home.

IU Kokomo freshman Nyssa Baker continues to lead the NAIA in total blocks and thus picked up River States Conference Volleyball Defender of the Week for Oct. 16-22. The middle hitter now has an NAIA-best 154 total blocks after collecting nine total blocks in a 3-0 week for the Cougars. She also added 29 kills and 16 digs in the nine sets played on the week. IU Kokomo Volleyball is on a 16 match win streak.

The Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches named their Academic All State Honors. Eastern’s Jack Johnson, Kokomo’s Corey Dea, NorthWestern’s Josie Marcum and Jacob Myers, and Western’s Ethan Lutgen earned First Team recognition. Eastern’s Molly Hapner and Josh Reprogle, Northwestern’s Sophia Yager-Motl, and Western’s Bronwyn Getts, Andrew Granfield, and Alex Taylor earned Honorable Mention.
